The Indonesian government will prepare for possible economic turbulence in 2009 by lowering revenue expectations for the state coffers though earning an unprecedented 53.79 percent increase in revenue this year from the energy and mining sectors.

The energy and mining sector was forecast to book 346.35 trillion rupiahs (about US$31.2 billion) in revenue for the state by the end of 2008, up from 225.21 trillion rupiahs in 2007, said Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro, quoted by the Jakarta Post today.

"The sector contributes 36 percent to total state revenues this year," he said.

The Indonesian government did not expect too much for 2009 because of a possible continuing slump in the global prices of oil, gas and mining commoditie, said the newspaper.

Purnomo said that the oil and gas companies contribute the most to the sector's total revenue, which amounted to 303.07 trillion rupiahs this year. –Xinhua
