【Ferro-alloys.com】: Mineral Resources (MinRes) has successfully achieved first blast at the Cardo Bore East deposit within the Onslow Iron project in Western Australia.

Cardo Bore East is set to support the Onslow Iron’s ongoing ramp-up to a 35 million tonnes per annum.

Cardo Bore East is located about 12km south of the Ken’s Bore mine site, a larger deposit within Onslow Iron.

The first blast at Cardo Bore East was completed in March, alongside a targeted drilling program, by the Onslow Iron drill and blast team. Further works are currently underway to prepare the site for further mining and haulage activity.

Onslow Iron product is currently transported along a dedicated and fenced 150km haul road running from the Ken’s Bore mine site to the MinRes transhipping terminal at the Port of Ashburton.

Once operational, Cardo Bore East is expected to deliver another iron ore producing deposit linked to Ken’s Bore crushing and processing facility via a dedicated private haul road currently under construction by CSI Mining Services, MinRes’ subsidiary.

“This is the latest important milestone in the development of the Onslow Iron project,” MinRes executive general manager Onslow Iron Mike Tonkin said.

“Alongside our current mining activities at Ken’s Bore, Cardo Bore East will help support the project’s ramp-up.

“Congratulations to everyone involved in achieving this milestone safely and we look forward to progressing operations at the deposit.”

In other MinRes news, the fourth transhipper for Onslow Iron has commenced operations, marking another important step in the ramp-up towards producing 35 million tonnes per year.

Once Onslow Iron product reaches the Port of Ashburton, it will be shipped via an initial fleet of five transhippers to the awaiting ocean-going vessels (OGVs) anchored 40km offshore from the port.
