LS Cable & System (C&S) has secured a power grid construction project worth 112.5 billion won ($95 million) in Kuwait, the cable maker said Tuesday.

The company signed a contract with Kuwait's Public Authority for Housing Welfare to build a power grid in Al-Mutlaa, a new town currently under construction.
Located 40 kilometers northwest of the nation's capital of Kuwait City, LS C&S will supply 400-kilovolt extra-high-voltage cables and carry out construction work for the ground cables.
As Kuwait is constructing nine new towns to address the growing population by injecting 30 trillion won to develop its infrastructure by 2035, LS C&S expects the company will be able to secure more power grid contracts there.
"We are expecting to win additional contracts there as the country plans to invest trillions of won in electric power transmission systems to develop new towns," said Myung Roe-hyun, CEO of the company.
LS C&S has been leading the extra-high-voltage cable market in the Middle East as the cable maker has successfully built massive extra-high-voltage power cables in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain since the early 2000s.
