[ferro-alloys.com]Zapolyarny — an investment project to construct the ore concentrate shipment facility kicked off at Kola MMC’s сoncentrator (part of the Nornickel Group). The new facility will enable the Company to split its copper-nickel concentrate into low-grade and high-grade.

Following the separation by flotation, the concentrate with a high nickel content will undergo briquetting and will then be delivered to the smelting facilities to produce converter matte. The Company plans to sell the rest of the concentrate with a low content of non-ferrous metals to third-party consumers after its processing.

For this purpose, it intends to construct a new flotation section, as well as thickening, filtration and shipment facilities. The core equipment supplier will be Finnish Outotec, one of the global leaders in minerals and metals processing technology.

The construction of the concentrate shipment facility will help Kola MCC to diversify its commercial products in line with the Company’s development strategy, while also tackling the most pressing environmental issue of cutting sulphur dioxide emissions. This, in turn, will reduce its environmental footprint.

On top of that, shipments of low-grade concentrate to a third-party processor will enable the Company to decommission the ore-thermal furnace No 3 in the smelting shop and cut its operating costs.
