[Ferro-Alloys.com] On September 29, Japan Aluminium Alloy Refiners Association released the result of demand & supply for silicon metal and the production result of secondary aluminium alloy products in August 2016.

According to this, the consumption of silicon metal in August was 3,110 tons, down by 15.0% from the prior month. On the one hand, the quantity received was 3,039 tons, grossly down by 22.8% from the prior month, and the month-end inventory was 2,227 tons, down by 5.1% ditto.

Besides, the production volume of secondary aluminium alloy products in August was 58,917 tons, down by 12.1% from the prior month, and the quantity shipped was 61,056 tons, down by 9.7% ditto. The month-end inventory was 19,795 tons, down by 6.7% ditto.

As August is a production curtailment time in summer, the production of secondary aluminium alloy products was down, the shipment of products was on a weak note and the purchase of silicon metal as raw materials also was held off. Since in-hand stocks held by the customers were sufficient also during September, the spot market for silicon metal was in a state of thin trading as is the case in August.
