Mexico announced recently that it has launched an investigation to determine whether Indian firms have been "dumping" ferro-silico-manganese, an input used in steelmaking.

The investigation was initiated at the request of Mexican manufacturer Compañía Minera Autlán, which alleges that Indian companies have been exporting ferro-silico-manganese to Mexico at prices below the selling price in India, thereby harming Mexican producers – a practice known as "dumping."

The investigation will cover exports during the period April 1, 2012, to March 31, 2015.

Mexico's Secretariat of Economy said that, based on the information provided by the complainant, there is sufficient evidence that Indian companies have been selling ferro-silico-manganese in Mexico at discriminatory prices to the detriment of Mexican producers. It said that imports from India accounted for 44 percent of all imports of the product during the period under investigation. In addition, it said that imports of the product from India grew 507 percent in the period, increasing Indian firms' share of the domestic market by 3.7 percentage points.
