In the period of January to July 2014, the top three production regions (Shaanxi, Shanxi, Ningxia Hui Region) suffered slowing growth or even decreases. While other production regions were seen with nice growth, especially Xinjiang Uygur Region, Sichuan and Qinghai.

In the first seven months of 2014, Shaanxi which was the top production region of magnesium enjoyed slight increase of output to 213.9 thousand tons; Shanxi magnesium output was 145 thousand tons, down 2.47%; Ningxia Hui Region which had much smaller numbers of producers than Shanxi and Shaanxi produced 58.1 thousand tons, down 11.83%.
