PrintBHP Billiton will decide whether to go ahead with a new concentrator at the Escondida copper mine in Chile by the beginning of 2012, base metals president Diego Hernández said. The Phase 5 project, as it was called when announced late in 2008, comprises a 160,000 tpd concentration plant aimed at increasing the volume of processed ore and compensating for lower metal content.
